Uganda Mission - University Vision

Mbale Arrival - Tue 6/13/2006
Dale Brooks and I arrived right on schedule Monday AM at 5:30, and cleared customs just in time to see an amazing sunrise over Lake Victoria. All our bags arrived except one of the trunks, which will be delivered tomorrow. Shawn & Linda Tyler met us, and we stayed in Entebbe until a couple of other flights arrived with other meeting participants who needed to be picked up. We then drove 4 hours to Mbale over rough roads surrounded by masses of people walking each way on the roads.

We stayed in the home of dear friends, Philip & Laura Shero, who are supported by RHCC on the Uganda Mission Team. Our first day's meeting went very well, with many Christian leaders from Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Congo, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Egypt participating. I am doing fine and enjoying the experience. More later!

Uganda Update - Friday 6/16/2006
I woke up this morning to a chorus of birds singing, dogs barking in unison, and sun shining in my window. The weather has been mild, with rain almost every day. We are at 4000 ft altitude so the heat is not too bad at daytime and tolerable at night. My new clothes are perfect for the weather and occasion. The attendees are brightly dressed in national attire and fun to watch. I have lots of video but few photos so far. I am pumped with the vision for a Christian university here in Mbale that can serve the nations of Africa with new hope. We will try to pick a name for it this evening. My personal favorite is: African Nations University. Amazing how fast the time has passed here in Uganda. I am anxious to share these experiences and see my family soon. (Dad, Happy Father's day!)

Mbale Uganda - Saturday 6/17/2006
The week has gone amazingly fast and well. A draft Strategic PLan has been completed and future action items defined for all involved. Tomorrow we will go to church in Mbale, then take the 4-hour ride to Entebbe for our 11:00 PM flight to Brussels. I will be more than ready to go home and see my family. (This very brief message is due to a computer that keeps dropping out.)

Home Again - Monday 6/19/2006
Dale and I had a great trip home via Entebbe to Brussels to New York JFK and on to DFW. All went well except a 3-hour delay getting away from JFK. All bags and trunks arrived safely at DFW and we were met by sweet family to take us home. My daughter Julie Jones was a "sight for sore eyes", and I enjoyed her company as we drove home at 10:30 PM. I slept well that night and went back to work Tuesday. I am anxious to share details of the Uganda experience with RHCC, family and friends.
